Author's Review
LEGO Star Wars for GameCube, although short and relatively easy provides good gameplay, humorous plots, and multiple bonus features: all of which are immersed in the Star Wars universe (Episodes I, II, III).
The gameplay of LEGO Star Wars is greatly innovative, yet vastly simply. The user has only a few buttons he has to choose from: attack, jump, and open (interface with doors and items). The innovative approach of this control greatly contributes to the gameplay, as it does not take a long time to get accustomed to the controls. Many of the commands contain secondary functions slaved to their primary uses, such as the force ability. By pressing the open button, any Jedi may use the Force on highlighted items. Throughout the game, this use of the Force is invaluable to both the character and the gamer. Using this simple interface, the user can progress throughout the game in level format. In most levels, a group of Star Wars characters will be available for play. By pressing one button, the player may switch among the characters. The added feature of cooperative play does much to liven the experience of the levels, as one may progress through the game with a friend.
If seeing your favorite Star Wars characters as LEGO pieces, does not humor you enough, the funny scenes depicted will surely make up for it! The makers of LEGO Star Wars have liberally added to the Star Wars plot, by twisting the familiar scenes in the movies into a more humorous view. This makes the game a great deal more enjoyable and not just for the younger players!
Lastly, LEGO Star Wars contains numerous bonus features that do much to further the amount of time spent in this game. Throughout the level, LEGO "studs" may be collected. These "studs" allow the player to purchase cheats, new characters, and hints. With thousands upon thousands of "studs" located within each level, LEGO Star Wars sends the gamer on a mad treasure to locate these and other such bonus items.
In conclusion, LEGO Star Wars makes for an enjoyable game with its innovative gameplay, humorous scenes, and numerous bonus features. Although the game may be rather the short and easy, the added features do much to offset both of these negative aspects. Regardless, this makes for a great game suitable for both the Star Wars and LEGO fan.
