Product Review

Terrible performance

by   dishmael ,   Dec 13, 2003

Pros:  Nice look, easy to configure, quick support, 8-port switch

Cons:  VERY SLOW throughput

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I recently purchased a Linksys to replace a dead router in my home. I immediately noticed a huge drop in throughput to the Internet. My download speeds are less than 20-135 Kbps compared to a direct connection to my cable modem (which is well over 1000 Kbps).

I contacted Linksys support but they were no help at all. It was nice to see them use online chat for support (something more and more companies are doing). They finally told me to either send it back to the store or RMA the router. Shipping cost for an RMA is the responsibility of the owner according to their web site which instantly makes me dislike them. Why should a buyer have to pay to replace a defective product?

Fortunately I still had my receipt, so I took it back to best buy and got a new one. Brought home the new one, plugged it in, and got it configured. I ran several tests to determine my throughput, unfortunately its the same situation.

I'm now forced to attempt to return it again. I think I will go with a Netgear FVS318 this time.
