It's Good To Have Connections

I've had this Cable/DSL router for about a year now. In case you are new to the world of broadband internet routing, a router is a device that allows multiple computers to share a single internet connection, such as Cable Modem Access (broadband through your Cable Company) or DSL (broadband through your Telephone Company).

My situation when I purchased this router was that I had a Windows PC machine that was connected to the internet via Cable Modem. I also had a Macintosh G3 that was on the desk next to it that was not connected. I wanted both computers to be able to access the internet at the same time (since I do a lot of web design work and my websites need to work on both mac and pc). I also knew that I would have the occasional laptop that would need to access the internet now and then.

This router was ALMOST plug-and-play easy to setup. The installation on the PC side was seamless and flawless. There was some fanaegalling (sp?) on the MAC side with the default IP address in order to get that working, but it also was quite simple to figure out, especially with the good documentation that comes with the router.

Within 20 minutes of opening the box I was up and running on both machines. Plugging a laptop into the router is as simple as just that. I take a standard ethernet cable and connect it between the laptop and router and BAM, it's on the internet.

Linksys has been a pioneer in the broadband routing field and their products have never let me down. I have an ethernet hub made by them as well and it is flawless too.

If the $65-$75 price tag is a little scary check Ebay. I got mine on ebay, brand new, for under $35. It was a real steal.
