Author's Review
My daughter is a habitual pacifier user. She is seven months old, and her preferred brand is Nuk by Gerber. She uses it mostly at night or too soothe herself when she is upset. Yes, my daughter can put the pacifier in her mouth when she wants it and take it out when she doesnt.
While her binky habit is not a problem, losing the pacifiers is a major concern. Sure, some of the pacifiers have gotten grimy and they had to be tossed, but several more seem to vanish into thin air. And sometimes, a loose pacifier can get under the baby when she is in the carseat, making it very hard to find!
Enter the Mam pacifier string. This thing is brilliant. It consists of a thick string- Im not sure of the material. One end of the string has clip that stays clipped with a sliding piece. You clip that end to the babys outfit. The other end has a flexile plastic/silicone piece with a hole in the middle. You push the plastic piece over the knob on your Mam brand pacifier. Voila!
But what if you dont have a Mam brand pacifier? As I mentioned in the first paragraph, my daughter likes Nuk pacifiers. The best thing about this pacifier string is that it is compatible with other brands of pacifiers. You can simply undo the Velcro and slide that flexible plastic silicone piece off of the string. You can now put a pacifier with a handle on the string, loop it around, and re-do the Velcro. Im probably making it sound a lot more complicated than it needs to be- this is a very easy procedure.
Being able to affix the pacifier to my daughters clothing means that I dont have to worry about losing the pacifier in the carseat. And yes, this is possible. Pacifiers tend to fall out of the babys mouth and lodge themselves under the baby all the time. Also, if I am carrying the baby and the pacifier falls out of her mouth, it does not fall on the floor. Clipped binkies are yummy! Floor binkies are yucky!
Of course, just having the string doesnt keep it from getting lost. The clip actually has to be attached to the baby to keep it from getting lost- ha ha! There have been many scrambles for Bink on a String before leaving the house. The long bright string trailing away from the pacifier makes it easier to find.
The one disadvantage is that our baby can unclip the clip. She cant operate the sliding bit- she just pulls really hard. She loves to put the clip in her mouth. I am concerned about her getting her tongue pinched, but this doesnt seem to happen because she cant move the sliding bit. This is somewhat of a relief, but it is still a concern.
There are a couple of different colors/patterns out there. Our string is yellow with a red stripe going down the middle. The clip has yellow, white, and orange wavy lines.
I highly recommend The Mam Pacifier Keeper. It can be used by both Mam pacifiers and pacifiers with handles, like the Gerber Nuk. The clip could be tighter, but it is nice to be able to keep the pacifier close at hand and off the floor!
