There are some things you never realize how useful it is until you have one with you all the time. A mini mag light is one of those. There are any number of scenarios you could come up with for this: power going out, looking under the couch for that lost remote, checking the engine of the car to see whats rattling. Having a light with you ready to go can ease some of those little stresses that happen in life.
The mini-mag is an excellent choice for its size, dependability, and cost. Its small enough to have one stashed in your glove-box, your kitchen drawer, carry in a purse, or wear with the holster on your belt. For the quality of the flashlight your buying, it isnt too draining on your wallet to buy multiples to have around in those different places youll most use one. Cheap flashlights often dont work well, and you have to shake them around to get the battery connections to go; all youd have is a flashlight that only sometimes lights up and doesnt last long anyway. Ive never had any troubles with my minimags. They always light up.
I was once hiking up in the desert mountains and came upon a mini-mag. It had been laying in the dirt long enough that the sun had completely faded the paint on the exposed half the mag light. I claimed it, took it home, cleaned off the dirt, put new batteries in, and it lit right up. Even after months of weather exposure it still worked. It just needed a new paint job
The one draw-back though is the bulbs do burn out. However, remedies have been made for the problem. The bottom cap (which is used to insert the batteries) holds a spare bulb for immediate fixing. Replacement bulbs are also typically sold at everyplace that sells mini-mags. Even better, they now sell a replacement LED bulb fixture. Installing one of these will eliminate the bulb-burn-out problem completely. Plus the LED version will increase battery life dramatically. I highly recommend converting your mini-mag to the LED bulb.
It can used as a candle by twisting off the top portion completely, then placing the light in the removed piece which will keep the light standing and look as if it were a candle.
It turns on simply by twisting the top portion of the light. If you carry one on your belt it occasionally may turn on by itself from time to time (sitting on couches, rolling on the floor, etc.). It can focus from a flood to a spot lighting effect. For its size, the light is exceptionally bright. With the standard bulb it comes with, you will notice the light to be much dimmer as the batteries need replacement. It uses two AA batteries, which most everyone buys already for other electronics.
