GPS: Find your way? If there's a fork in the road you may be forked.

Date of Review:  Aug 15, 2007
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this. Even with the downsides, I believe this is a terrific device. It's been a lifesaver a couple of times in the short time I've had it.
Review: The strange thing about electronics is that when I say, I ll never waste my money on that! Who needs it?? I end up spending my money on it and thinking, How did I ever live without this? It happened with satellite radio and now it s happened with...

Wow... Best GPS Yet

Date of Review:  Jun 19, 2007
The Bottom Line: I was happy with my Roadmate 760 - the Maestro 4040 blows it away with all the new features
Review: I own a Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS and over the last few years I've had to replace the spring-loaded connector three times. And now, all of a sudden, the unit takes forever to get its bearings on the initial start up of the day.

GPS...

Disappointed

Date of Review:  Oct 16, 2007
The Bottom Line: Skip this, unless you get it as a gift. At the time of this writing, Garmin provides a better bang for your 350 or so bucks.
Review: I'm currently looking to upgrade my Thinkpad-plus-wired-mouse-GPS solution for a better on-the-road sanity while taking off some of the pains of having the passenger carry a Thinkpad on the lap.

I used a Garmin on a recent car rental from...

Good GPS - here are some suggestions

Date of Review:  Jul 1, 2007
The Bottom Line: A good GPS with reasonable size, cost and driving features, but sometimes unresponsive to menu prompts and it's hard to adjust brightness.
Review: I'm not an expert with other driving-oriented GPSs, but in using my Maestro for the last few months on family and business trips, I have some opinions. Overall, I think this is a good GPS in terms of size, cost, screen clarity, and the AAA database...

Excellent navigation system

Date of Review:  Dec 5, 2007
The Bottom Line: This GPS unit does what I expect it to do, which is to make solo navigation easier.
Review: I wanted a GPS unit because I travel alone and find it hard to navigate with a paper map. My first experience with GPS was with a Hertz rental car that had a Magellan GPS unit (Hertz Neverlost) and it was fantastic. I selected the Magellan Maestro...

A great GPS that is worth the cost

Date of Review:  Jan 12, 2008
The Bottom Line: A good GPS, main flaws are with the company and not the actual device, no frills
Review: I purchased the Magellan 4040 a month or so ago, and so far, it has been simply a great device. I did have some glitches with it over the first month, but those were fixed by updating the firmware.

As soon as I took it out of the box,...

Expensive, but easy to use

Date of Review:  Mar 26, 2008
The Bottom Line: Magellan's Maestro 4050 is an all inclusive top of the line GPS receiver. If you demand the latest and greatest and any cost, you'll love the Maestro.
Review: This review assumes that you already have a basic knowledge of GPS systems and are considering the Magellan MAESTRO 4050 as your model of choice.

I work as a paramedic for a local hospital and we have this model GPS in one of our paramedic...

Have GPS, Will Travel

Date of Review:  Nov 13, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you have no sense of direction, this GPS is an absolute must!
Review: I am one of those poor souls who has absolutely NO sense of direction. I dreaded going anywhere new, for I would get hopelessly lost. Even armed with maps, I always managed to take the wrong exit, go the wrong way, be in the wrong lane, and spend...

A good choice, if probably not the BEST unit for the $$$

Date of Review:  Apr 17, 2008
The Bottom Line: A reliable and functional GPS, with good visibility and understandable text-to-speech, for less than $280 (check on-line sources.) Mine has worked just fine for over 20 months.
Review: I just noticed that another reviewer was comparing this unit (unfavorably) to his ThinkPad and GPS "mouse" combination, He decided that he might just as well stick with the ThinkPad on his front seat. Not sure that I see this as a valid...

Compared 2 units side by side, and to Garmin Nuvi 360

Date of Review:  Nov 25, 2007
The Bottom Line: Better than a Garmin Nuvi 360 and costs less! Routes you on more major roads less surface streets. Much better screen as it shows all the poi's on the screen.
Review: Magellan 4040 purchased 11/19/07 returned 11/26/07

Advise: If you want something to take you to a specific address DON T BUY a 4040!

The 4040 is a fantastic GPS navigator from point A to B, but fails getting you to C (the finale...
