Product Review

Piece of junk

by   flooby ,   Mar 16, 2008

Pros:  When it works its OK for road navigation.

Cons:  Not waterproof, takes forever to find itself, bad customer service. not worth owning.

The Bottom Line:  I would stay away from it. Do not consider it waterproof no matter what the hype says - stay away from water with it.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

Mine lasted for one set of batteries - by the time the battery died so did the GPS. The things are supposed to be "waterproof" but are unable to take salt spray on a kayak.

After going back and forth with their on-line support department they give me a phone number and I have to go over everything a second time on the telephone to India.

The Customer service is unbelievably bad. Indians who speak very little English laboriously take you through their scripted responses by giving international phonetic letters one at a time to spell every word. After an hour on the phone I finally send it back with an RA#. A few months later the replacement GPS (different serial number - fails before launching the kayak) The battery terminal was already corroded on this (used) replacement one, but it did work for a few minutes . . .

My best advice would be to avoid the product entirely unless you only plan to use it outdoors on nice days. Get the extended warranty and figure it into the cost as a necessary expenditure. In a wood frame house it wouldn't work, and wouldn't work in a car. Mine was never in the water and hung around my neck while paddling. Every indication is that water enters through the battery compartment. There was condensation on the inside of the display and it was unreadable until the whole unit warmed up.
