Author's Review
I am absolutely directionally challenged, Point me in any direction and to me it's always North. Turn me around enough in my own neighborhood, the neighborhood I've lived in for almost 49 years, chat me up and in two minutes I won't have any clue as to where I am or where I am going. It's an on going subject of much amusement in my family. I in Florida half the year-so I have to reconstruct my idea of my bearings each time I relocate.
Recently, I headed out of the bank thinking I was heading home. 45 minutes later into what should have been a 10 minute trip I realized I was "fah fah away" as my grandson would say. Luckily, I have a cell phone and was able to contact help. I did not have the Magellan Roadmate at the time.
For Xmas my beloved gave me the Magellan RoadMate 2000T GPS Receiver. I guess he wanted to prevent me from accidentally crossing borders trying to get home.
With the Magellan RoadMate 2000T GPS Receiver you can select a category, Car rental, Vehicle services, Airports, Banks, etc and it will give you directions. It's amazing! It will locate them and then you can select your destination, Home, Address book, Intersection, points of interest. You can choose a route method; shortest distance, shortest time, least use of freeways, most use of freeways. You do this on a touch screen, it gives you numbers and letters so you can type in the information random place, anywhere.
The screen has excellent night time contrast and daytime you can angle it to avoid glare.
You see and hear your next turn. There is a voice message for each turn you make. A lovely lady, my new best friend, tells me how far to the next turn and a bell rings to remind me that I must turn ahead since it seems to know I have attention deficit. I love her. I think she loves me. Seriously, in order that you don't have to watch the screen constantly you can listen for directions.
Set up is simple. You follow the prompts after reading the instructions. To enter the information on your Magellan or change the directions you use the touch screen. You can do all this before you set out on your adventure. If, when you're following your directions you make a mistake, miss a turn, or change your mind the Magellan will correct you, give you an alternate route or keep reminding you to "make a legal U turn" for instance to get you back on track. Or you can stop and reprogram for the new destination. It will tell you "You have arrived at your destination" when you do. It's quite easy to learn the ropes to use the Magellan RoadMate 2000T GPS Receivers. It's basic, you just follow directions as it walks you through each step of the system.
I need bifocals to read the map print but I manage. The map is a challenge for me because of this and my poor sense of direction but I have the lovely lady to tell me what to do. The actual screen is 2" x 2 1/2" and in color.
The map is current and encompasses (no pun intended) the entire USA. You can update through the Mgellan site by downloading naything new.
When I park and leave the car, as a precaution I always dismantle the Magellan Roadmate and put it in a safe, hidden place in my car. Mine actually fits in my purse if I want to take it with me.
The mounting device is a suction cup mount that attaches to the windshield wherever you want to put it, to the side or center, your choice. so you can hide the whole works if you want by unsnapping it from it's mount. It attaches and detaches easily. There have been items on the news about car thieves nabbing these so I would be sure to remove it every time you leave the car.
It's small, powerful and affordable. It fits in your glove compartment or purse. It comes from the creators of Hertz and runs about $325. It's a real life saver.
