Author's Review
For those who have more than one guitar, the Martin Backpacker, classical, is a great addition to your collection. The price listed at e-opinions is higher than what I paid - under $200.
The great thing about this guitar is that it fits in an airplane overhead compartment. The zipper pocket in the case allows for strings, cleaning cloths, capo, string winder, and whatever else you may need on the road.
Also, it plays great. I really love this little guitar because it plays well, looks beautiful, and sounds decent. My only complaint is that due to the size of the body the sound does not carry very far.
For lefties: this, or any classical guitar for that matter, is great for you (and me too). The reason is the straight bridge that is used on classical guitars. This allows us southpaws to switch the strings around with little difficulty. The only problem for lefties and classical guitars is that you do not get any fret indicators. The frets do not have them, and the neck has it on the wrong side for lefties. That just means you have to be better than righties. Which we are - tongue planted firmly in cheek.
Stringing classical guitars: this is tricky your first time out. Start with the first (highest) string. Loop the string around and stretch it so it covers the length of the bridge. Continue on until the sixth (lowest) string is added. This allows the heavier strings to hold the lighter strings down so they will not stretch and go out of tune.
