What a magical musical Mary Poppins is! Would you believe it somehow escaped my childhood? I just saw it for the first time a year ago, and now have the video. Boy, I was missing out on some wonderful Disney fun. Julie Andrews, as always, is superb and Dick VanDyke is perfect in his ever-changing roles.
The songs within Mary Poppins will touch you on some profound level, although on the surface they seem silly. They will stay with you long after the movie is over. Not only will the songs touch you, but the story will move you as well. It ends so upliftingly that you will want to get out of your seat and dance along with the characters. Made my eyes misty with happiness. I can see why it has remained so popular for so long!
My 18 month old son, a tough critic, loves the movie! I play it over and over again for him, and he loves to dance along to the singing. It's a very cute sight. I was surprised it would interest him so young.
Mary Poppins is truly a timeless classic and I'm sure it will remain that way for many years to come!
