Product Review

case sucks, drive is all right

by   pyramus ,   Mar 1, 2006

Pros:  You can use the case to store small change, with complementary blue flashing lights! :-S

Cons:  Please do NOT use this thing for the original purpose (as an external HDD)!

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

Like the other reviews, I strongly suggest not to buy this external HDD! Let me explain this a little bit: the enclosure sucks, harddisk itself is 'all right'.

The facts:
-> Already after a few months of using this drive as a backup storage (only about 1 hour a week!), at one day suddenly the blue front lights started flashing, and kept doing so!

-> Drive wasn't found by Windows any more, FireWire nor USB. Not on my desktop neither on my laptop. On this nice website I read about a possible problem with the enclosure.

-> So, despite of the sticker on the screws telling me the warranty would be VOID, I decided to try the HDD in another casing.

-> et voila! It worked flawlessly. So now I decided to never prefer price to the comments of friends again (2 of
my friends had also problems with a Maxtor external HDD)!

So thanks Maxtor, for my new small change box with blue flashing lights, it was really worth the money: NOT! :-S
