Does the job but will it stand the test of time?update 12/00

I recently had this product installed in my home. First of all, it had all the features I was looking for and the price seemed right compared to others I looked at. It is self cleaning, has a 6 pass broiler element instead of just 4, two heavy duty oven racks, and easy viewing window with light. The tough part about choosing an oven is that you really can't try it out until you have it in your home.

I like the spacious oven cavity and the large window for easy viewing. It has a flush mount to the cabinets as well. It looks good but nothing special. Cooking has been very good so far but I am still learning the controls. Basic functions are easy to understand and use. Although, to set the timer it has up and down arrows you have to hold down to reach the proper setting and I would prefer a keypad to input the time. Two oven racks and three settings make for easy cleaning and and move easily in the oven.

The warranty is 1 year parts and labor, 2 years on parts, 5 years major components.

I broil quite a bit and it seems to be doing a nice job thus far. I baked a cake in it yesterday and I was very pleased with the outcome. Very even cooking.

However...this product arrived with a scratched glass door in two places. Also a scratch on the trim. Maytag said they would send a replacement door and it would be installed by the dealer free of charge. They would not, however, take this product back unless I paid them $100. OUCH!

After using it, I have discovered that the trim is not made well and one plastic corner is already cracked, the metal frame on top is not quite flush with the corner piece either. The pushbutton front has a lot of give in my opinion and I'm not sure it will last 10 to 20 years. It also has a fan that runs while in use. Don't know that I like this constant noise.

I would gladly choose another product although the product seems to be performing well so far. I just don't feel that the outside of the product is made well.

UPDATE: I passed my first Thanksgiving with this oven and I must say that I am extremely pleased with it's performance. While I still may have some reservations on the exterior of the oven, the performance is excellent. It fit my 20 pound turkey in the roaster and did a beautiful job. It is easy to clean and viewing window is well centered. This oven cooks very evenly because of the added coils. Although I had reservations about the fan on the oven, it really doesn't bother me now. In fact, it is a great reminder to me that I have left the oven on or that it is still very hot. With children, I really appreciate this.
