Maytag is the leader in POOR quality and customer service

Original Symptom: Does not heat food
Current Symptom after 3 repair attempts by Maytag service tech: Does not heat food, #6 button on control panel does not work and vent motor cannot be turned off.

After waiting through two months of delays getting this product delivered and installed and having it fail after only 5 months of use, I then had to put up with poor customer service and incompetent repair personnel.

The technician they sent to repair it has made 3 trips on 3 separate occasions and replaced 3 parts. These parts included a diode, a transformer and a control board. After the control board replacement not only did the microwave not heat food, the #6 button on the front panel no longer worked and the vent could not be turned off.

On the last visit, the technician said that he could not fix the microwave and that in his opinion it was un-repairable at any reasonable cost.

I have since made several more calls to Maytag customer service and have been told that they will try to find someone else to fix it. So far they have not been able to find someone willing to have a go at it.

I suspect that I will have to eat the cost of replacing the unit myself as I no longer believe there is any hope that Maytag or it's parent company Whirlpool will make this right.

I will probably replace this unit with one from GE or any other brand not associated with Whirlpool (ie not KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, etc).
