Product Review

We got a great deal on a Maytag Epic MFW9600S

by   flippster ,   May 28, 2007

Pros:  Built in heater for steralize option, quiet, energystar compliant washer for rebates

Cons:  The door only open from right to left, cannot change it.

The Bottom Line:  For the price and the energy savings, the quietness, the built in heater - steralize option, this is a sweet machine.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We just had to get a new washer, ours was a 22 year old model that was whining when in the spin cylcle and the clothes came out drenched and took over an hour and a half to dry them. We found our Maytag Epic 9600 listed for $899 but was on sale at the store sounding like bernards for $779. It also came with a $50 dollar rebate, bringing the price down to $729. Last years model the Neptune was selling for $669. So we thought for the 60 dollar difference, the Epic had a 3.8 cu ft drum which will hold a king size comforter but the Neptune model only had a 3.1 for a Queen size. The new Epic had 2 settings in which it will literally steralize the load using its own built in heater. Wow, how cool is that? So I wanted to buy the Epic on site, but wifey had more common sense than I and wanted to shop around. We went to the Orange Box store and they had the exact same machine for $899 but on sale for $849 and having the $50 rebate would be $799. We were about to walk out the door when the salesman said we can match the other guy, (they would beat it by 10% if they had it in stock, but didn't) and he said they had an additional $75 in store credit rebate on top of that! Hmmm, Now we are talking, $729 - $75 = $654 and to top that off he said we will deliver it for free, (a $55 value) and we will haul away your old one for free (a $25 fee plus gas at the local recycling center) $599 - the 25 and gas is now at $569. Then we went to our local electric company and they had a rebate for $100! I was like SWEET! $469. Now get this, they made 2 errors when delivering it, and it cost us 2 weeks before we took delivery, but they made it right and we got 2 - $25 gift certificates, 1 for each time they messed up. $419. You gotta be kidding me? Nope, I have the receipts to proove it. If it would have had a scratch on it when they delivered it I would have gotten another 75, but it was perfect. This one spins our clothes at 1000rpm's and the 9700 is at 1200 rpm's. (More money though) Now after we washed our first load, almost all jeans and sweat pants, our old dryer, the 20 year old one, took only 35 minutes to dry the whole load! MY WIFE WAS SO HAPPY! We did not put this on a pedastal, heard about bad vibrations with the high speed spinning front loaders. I dunno, guess you have to know how sturdy your floor is. We own a double wide and the answer was NO pedastals. If your on a slab, probably no big deal. This washer has 4 shocks inside, but even still, we had some shaking but the machine was quiet and the auto balance feature did work, it re adjusted our large load of jeans twice and then sent then spinning. We are very pleased! Thank you Jesus!
