EGR Issues

Pros: Fuel Mileage 38 - 42 average, Comfortable seats, tight steering, fun car to drive.

Cons: road noise, EGR problems.

When the fuel prices started inching towards $3.00 again I started looking for a commuter car that was dependable and got decent fuel mileage. My father in law owned a 1992 protege and never had many problems. I found a 1996 DX with the 1.5 liter engine and 5 speed. The body was in good shape. I negotiated the price down to $1000.00 because it needed a clutch and the CEL was on and the car's state inspection had expired. Put a clutch in but could not get it to pass inspection after a new EGR, EGR sensor, etc. Well $650.00 later I finally passed inspection.

Over all I really enjoy the car. I feel it is worth the $2200.00 I have in it. Fuel mileage is great, I average 38 to 42 MPG. The steering is great, comfortable seats. I put 14 inch protege LX alloy wheels and tires on it, that I picked up at a salvage yard for very little money.
