Your back will thank this stool!!

When my husband and I decided that I would nurse our baby, we didn't want to buy a lot of gadgets. We did buy a boppy, but other than that, we didn't have much else when my son was born. My son ended up being an all day marathon nurser! For the first few months, I could barely get a break to use the restroom. I nursed him in bed, in the living room, in the car (while stopped, of course) and everywhere in between. About a month into nursing, I started to notice some pain in my lower back. I talked to a friend of mine who knows a bit about ergonomics and she suggested I needed a stool for my legs while sitting to help align my body properly. I did notice that even with my boppy, I was usually trying to make my legs lift a little to allow myself to support and lift the baby. We started off with a regular stool we already had. It is about 10 to 12 inches high and I could tell immediately it wasn't really going to help. Unless I put my legs out straight on it, It lifted my lap too much. After checking a couple of different stores, we finally happened upon the nursing stool by medela. I purchased the stool in white to match the colors of our nursery and went home to test it out. The stool is about 8 inches high, On the way home I was skeptical. Would a couple of inches really make that much of a difference? When I tried it out, all doubt left my mind. I immediately felt more comfortable...at ease. My body felt it was in a natural position. After a few days I noticed my nagging back pain had subsided. This was one of the best twenty something dollars I spent!! Now the stool is a bit low to the ground so it isn't as useful for other things, but now that we don't use it that much for nursing, my son can use it to give him that little boost needed to climb onto the couch or bed.
