Product Review

Sadly - No good!

by   dummhans ,   Dec 8, 2008

Pros:  Nice Display

Cons:  Program is faulty, aggravating and too complicated for the average user.

The Bottom Line:  For the average user, do not buy this program unless you want to be constantly aggravated and waste a LOT of time. Try to stick with The XP version.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

Bought an Acer Aspire desktop with the Windows Vist Home Premium program installed in Feb/08.
Would not accept most of the programs that worked perfectly with the XP program I have on my older Sony Viao desktop, which I still have workable.
Granted the display looks nice but it cannot make up for the shortcomings.
Apart from the compatibility issues, the program finally screwed up the DVD burner (it still reads but does not burn properly) where I lost a great number of DVD's due to being rendered unusable. So I bought a good LG external burner with which I then had the same problems. This burner was accepted as a return.
The technicians at STAPLES said they could only try to reformat and reinstall the program in the Acer. This, I did not want to have done due to the huge workload of starting out new again.
So, as an alternative I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop a few weeks ago, along with another Sony external burner. This laptop came again with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. What do you know? – I got the same problem all over again.  I am so fed up with this that by now I am in the process of having the Vista program removed and an available XP program installed in the laptop. Of course, I have to field the considerable cost of this conversion. Not that I like it, but for my experience, I am sure it will be worth it.

Another thorn in the side is the annoying feature of the Vista program of grabbing every picture imported from a camera into the Documents folder and storing it in the Windows Photo Gallery also.  This would not be so bad if one could delete them from there – but try to delete them and then, the pictures disappear from your Documents Folder !  So by now I have over 14,000 (yes, fourteen thousend) pictures most of which I don’t want there. Only by renaming every picture can this stupid practice avoided.

It is inconceivable to me that this big corporation is unwilling to redress these common problems that it created. After all, this program is already a long time on the market and even the latest installations (on my Vaio lap top, for instance) are still defunct.
So I say, shame on you, the BIG Microsoft corporation, you certainly do not deserve the money you make on this program.
