Author's Review
This radio is a vast improvement over my 15-year old weatheralert radio. The S.A.M.E. encoding means I can pick and choose what counties to program in. I chose the county I live in and about a dozen other counties to the north, west, southwest, and south where our weather comes from for some advance warnings. Radio is time consuming to program but once it is set you don't have to worry about it. Also has AM/FM tuner with 3 presets for each band and a clock radio with alarm. Radio reception with just the four AA batteries is fair at best, plugged into an AC outlet the reception is outstanding--far surpassing my old Radio Shack weatheralert radio. Has jacks for external speaker, external antenna, and can connect devices for hearing/sight impaired persons as well which is a distinct advantage of this radio. Does not come with a wall-mounting bracket although the antenna swivels such that it could be horizontally-mounted. Has hi/lo volume level for the alert siren which is nice, also plays the alert message, has blinking light and text-message alert that continues until the warning is over. Also receives AMBER alerts and community alerts like hazardous materials/chemical leaks, wildland fires, etc. etc. The county codes are available from the national weather service website for the entire U.S. Overall a very good radio, I bought mine through Amazon.com for $47.95, which is $20 cheaper than this radio is sold in stores locally(!!!). I highly recommend this radio, especially if you live in Tornado-prone areas like Kentucky (Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, etc.).
