Author's Review
I never thought I'd use one of these devices! Hah! Then came an ultra busy time when I was out shopping, etc. receiving several calls and cradling a phone on my neck was a pain there, and using the loud speaker option in public was not an option. I needed an alternate!
TA-DA! I purchased a Motorola H350 for my Motorola RAZR phone and I love it! Well, mostly I love it.
The good: Initial connection was simple after charging up of the device. My Bluetooth headset use is very low on average, so standby time was crucial factor as I don't want to charge another device every night, or even every other night! The standby time is excellent for my 3 to 5 hour a week average use. I charge it as I am driving here and there and a full charge on my home charger once a week. I simply turn it off when not in use and when I turn it back on it's ready to go. Perfect! Heavy Bluetooth users will need to increase their charging time to reflect their use, and I have found the range to exceed the 30 ft maximum. I have retained a signal at about 40 ft.
For such a small fairly discreet devise, the H350 delivers excellent sound quality. My callers hear me perfectly. I prefer its over the ear instead of the into the ear option as I have sensitive ears and did not want to deal with replacing sponge coverings etc. associated with into-the-ear models. The rubber donut encased speaker that sets against your ear is comfortable. The actual ear clip fits over the back of my ear well. The reversibility of the clip is good too, allow for left or right ear use. The side volume controls are easy an intuitive to use. This model features include 3-way calling, mute, redial, and a smart automatic power saver mode! It is sturdy and well made, especially if you purchase a case to keep it protected when not in use. Those flat form-fitting one piece phone sleeves for those really tiny cell phones work great as a case.
The AC charger works with my Motorola RAZR phone, so now I have an extra phone charger for travel and my existing RAZR car charger works for the H350 Motorola Bluetooth! No need to I did not need to purchase another car charger. I like the overall look of the Bluetooth, it is small and discreet as I did not want the screaming "I'm-using-a-fancy-blue-tooth!" look I'd come to associate these devices with (smile)! This model comes in black with just a flashing blue light -- not too showy or obtrusive! The function tones are handy as you obviously cannot see what your doing as you activate, answer calls etc.
The not so good: I find it difficult to turn the H350 on. The main function key turn-on option is dependent not just on you pressing it, but how long your press it, in conjunction with special tones that should let you know the headset is on and functional. This combination of actions does not work well all the time, sometimes it seems a longer press of the button does it, sometimes a harder press! I feel I have to really mash the button down, which in turn presses the device against my ear to get it to work, which is distracting while driving ironically! Sometimes, I end up having to pull over to get it to go. Or just set it up before I get into my car to avoid all the hassles. Sometimes I hear the activation tones, sometimes I don't (I think they could be a tad louder, especially for when you are outdoors). I'm not always certain unit is on until I see the Bluetooth "icon" flashing by looking at the actual phone. So, I can't just turn it on from say another room and feel confident that it's on... Turning it off can be difficult too -- if you press the button too long it will redial the last person you called!
I simply wish there was a "toggle" or separate master button for on or off! The multi-function button set-up which also serves for call-waiting etc. just does not seem to function well on all levels. All of his could be a glitch with my particular unit... As usual with many Motorola products you find out the details on use, glitches etc. on non-Motorola web forums and blogs.
The H350 Wireless ear clip part works well with my medium sized ears, but I wish it could be slightly adjusted by use of a rubber covered wire, instead of the fixed plastic. A nice optional rubber covering would be nice to build up the size of the clip for those who need that for a better fit. As it goes you're sorta stuck with a one-fits-all system. Fortunately mine fits me, though I find it so light I have to check to make sure I've not dropped it somewhere. I wish there was some kind of audio "locate" alert you could sent to the device to help you locate it if you drop in your car and night or simply can't find it in the house. Perhaps someone will think of that for future models.
To sum it all up: This is a good entry level Bluetooth head set, which can now be found affordably all over the Internet. I like using it around the house when I am doing things requiring both hands, without the limitations of using a speaker phone. My first Motorola H350 was retail and I've mislaid it somewhere, so I purchased another on for half the price online! They are small and can be hard to keep up with for some (smile). The sound quality, portability of this model makes it an ideal companion for your mobile phone.
