Product Review

A Mixed Bag

by   gotpaint32 ,   Jul 16, 2006

Pros:  solid construction, sleek, stable, clear and bright display

Cons:  laggy, no standard headphone jack, battery life, easy smudge screen

The Bottom Line:  If you would like a full featured phone with the ability to surf the web and form factor is an important selling point the Q is probably for you.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

The phone's OS is pretty stable however the interface is somewhat laggy. The phone and its interface has a bit of a learning curve but thats just motorola for you. After a few days of using the phone and getting to know where the buttons are on it, it should be like second nature. The Q is based around motorolas phone first, pda second strategy. It is aimed primarly for users who would like to surf the net and get emails only ocassionally. The OS and its native browser are far too limited for heavy internet access.

Overall, the phone feels solid, with the exception of the battery cover. The screen smudges easily making fingerprints show up like crazy so neat freaks should probably steer away. The camera works well, not spectacular but pretty respectable for a phone camera at 1.3 megapixel. The miniSD slot allows for loading of additional storage space however the lack of a traditional headphone port makes you reliant on the bluetooth headphones marketed by motorola. Headset setup for bluetooth was a cinch and setting the unit up for activesync was a snap. Battery life was nothing to write home about but with probably a hour of talk time and two hours of browsing a day over about a 10 hour span I still come home with about a quarter of the battery life left.
