My favorite movie of all time!

This movie has been my favorite since I first saw it as a young child. As I got older, I realized how sophisticated the comedy is, and as I watched the movies it parodies, I appreciated the humor even more. This movie features an amazing cast of Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees including Maggie Smith, James Coco, Peter Falk, and David Niven. All the famous literary sleuths are parodied (Nick and Nora Charles, Miss Jane Marple, Hercule Poirot, Charlie Chan, Sam Spade, and originally, Holmes and Watson. The latter two appeared at the end of the movie, which was for some insane reason cut from the video! Here's hoping for inclusion on a DVD!)

The plot sometimes makes no sense, but that's kind of the point. The movie expresses disdain about mysteries having endings that make no sense, and the introduction of characters at the end of the story that never made an appearance before. This movie is ridiculous fun that pokes ridiculous fun at the "locked room" mystery genre.

Eileen Brennan and Maggie Smith have the funniest lines, but the entire cast shines as they out-quip and upstage each other. My favorite gag is that these are "the five greatest living detectives" as they constantly remind each other, yet they jump at every sight of a dead body!
