Pretty bad video - Eats batteries like crazy!
Date of Review: May 26, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you want a real camcorder, spend a few bucks more. You'll pay more in batteries alone than you'd pay for a better camcorder.
The Mustek DV-5300SE Camcorder is not for the person who is serious about either videos or photographs. The quality of both are pretty bad.
The camcorder eats batteries like crazy and it gets even worse in camera mode with flash! If you get 10 flash photos out of a set of batteries, you are very lucky!
The only real use I can see for this camcorder is filming something where the danger of destroying the camcorder is possible and you don't want to be out a lot of money. One review mentioned using it on a radio controlled plane. That would be a good use because you are only out less than $75.00 if it crashes and burns. Skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and similar activities would also be good for this camcorder. After all, you don't want to buy a $200 camcorder and destroy it, do you?
Video is average for this type of cheap camcorder and that means it's much less than average for a real camcorder! It's fine for YouTube because the video quality on the website is usually pretty bad anyhow.
This might be a good camcorder for young children and pre-teens, but you will hear the constant cries for more batteries.
Unless you specifically need a small destructible camcorder, I can't see a reason to buy this. If you want home video, spend a few more dollars and get a real camcorder. This is another toy camcorder (there are a lot of them out there.)
I can't recommend this for any other reason than the ones I mentioned.
