Author's Review
'My Name Is Earl' ... is probably the best comedy sitcom back on NBC's Thursday night line-up, since Friends & Seinfeld. It and Steve Carrell on the 'The Office' are both pretty darn funny. But, 'Medium', on later, is also good. Anyway, THIS show features Jason Lee as 'Earl' and Ethan Suplee as his brother, 'Randy'. It also stars, Jamie Pressley as Earl's ex-wife, Joy', Eddie Steepless as 'Darnell', and Nadine Valesquez as 'Catalina'.
You'll remember Jason Lee from stuff like Mallrats, Clerks, Dogma, Stealing Harvard, Chasing Amy, and lots more. I have always liked him as an actor and the characters he chooses to play are always pretty entertaining. He does a great job in this comedy show. I really love Jamie Pressley's portrayal of Joy; also, she is hilarious in the dumb, bossy, white trash hick role, which reminds me a lot of the character she played in the Jerry Springer movie, Ringmaster. I have seen her play this type of character quite a bit, she must really enjoy playing silly redneck characters and getting the chance to poke fun at herself. She does well in comedy, as she proves in this show and when she did movies like, Not Another Teen Movie. I really loved her though, in the far-too-short series, Jack & Jill, on the WB, which was her in a totally different light, totally different type of role. They really need to put that show on DVD.
I mostly remember Ethan Supple from his spell as the big bully on Boy Meets World, it's hard to imagine that he's already all grown up. He does a great job at playing Earl's dim-witted brother Randy and makes a good side hand man to Earl on the show. The actors that play Darnell & Catalina seem to be unknown until this show, but they are also very funny at times.
At any rate, this show's premise starts off with Earl winning 100,000 on a lottery ticket, to which he loses by being run over by a car. So, in the hospital he decides all the bad luck he always has is based on "KARMA" punishing him for all the dirty deeds he has committed in his life. Then, when by chance, he manages to get the ticket back, he decides in order to keep karma on his side, he will make a list of all the things & people he has done wrong and try to make them right! So every episode after this consists of Earl trying to cross of something on his list by trying to do something to help repay the person or thing he did wrong. Between this dilemma and the other crazy characters on the show, Earl gets himself into some pretty hilarious situations. A couple of my favorites episodes are: Joy's Wedding and her kick in the face and bedazzle dress, Y2k at the Wal-Mart, Joy stealing the truck and getting her butt kicked by Juliette Lewis, Joy's beauty pageant statue, and more.
I just watched the latest episode, I believe, in the third season, that featured cameos from Alyssa Milano and Paris Hilton, it was quite hilarious, but it slightly saddens me that Earl started losing his faith in "KARMA".I recommend you watch all the seasons, it's a very fun show. I didn't watch this on DVD so I can't comment on any
extras, but I have seen almost all the episodes on TV, so I wanted to review it and tell you all who haven't seen it what you are missing out on. I don't think there is a category for it on TV?, so I had to put it here. Thanks. Now go watch!
