NEC ND-3500A Review

I ended up getting my ND-3500A on a recommendation from a friend. So far it has performed to spec in every way tested and I have not had a single problem with it. I have burned DVD-Rs and RWs as well as CR-Rs and RWs.

The write mode mediums it supports are:
CD-R (48x)
CD-RW (24x)
DVD-R (16x)
DVD-RW (6x)
DVD+R (16x)
DVD+RW (8x)
DVD+R DL (4x)

The write mode settings it supports are:
Packet mode, TAO (Track at Once), DAO (Disk at Once), SAO (Session at Once), RAW SAO and RAW DAO

-Also it supports the new DVD+R Dual Layer Format (DVD+R DL) which can hold approximately double the data than a normal DVD, 7.95GB

-Also as with most late model burners the ND-3500A has Buffer Underrun Protection which means if the memory buffer runs out while you are burning you do not screw up your burn; this is an excellent feature as it saves you time and money by having to re-burn CD/DVDs

Read Modes:
48x for CD, CD-R and CD-RW
16X for DVD, DVD+/-R and DVD+/-RW
CD Text off of CDs that have them on it (not very important)

-This drive supports reading of C2 errors which can reduce the amount of read errors when ripping audio cds as well as making ripping go faster.

The only semi annoying thing I noticed with this drive is when I burn to 8x DVD-Rs the burn will start at around 4.1 and slowly make its way up to 8x (a full DVD-R will take around 9 min to burn on this drive with 8x DVD-Rs) at this point in time it is not economical to buy 16X DVD-Rs because they are too expensive.
