It's really a stretch for Nintendo to title this game after the great arcade turned console football game, which is an absolute blast full of bone crushing hits and incredible graphics. The Gameboy game has none of this -- the players are tiny, identical near-stick figures, and the tackles just occur when one player touches another.
However, you have to judge a Gameboy game based on how fun it is, not the graphics or detail, because they will never even come close to comparing. Blitz is a lot of fun, having all the NFL teams and up to 30 plays to choose from. Its also incredibly difficult, and I have yet to beat the computer. It allows you to play a quick arcade game, or pick a team and try to lead them to the Superbowl.
The limited platform of the Gameboy has some problems in a football game, not allowing you to see down the field to who you are passing to and not having enough buttons to do moves like straight arm or dive. So you pretty much run until you are tackled, having no way to break them.
Overall, its a fun title, and sports games are always good because they have good replay value. Maybe not the best Gameboy game, but a good addition to the collection.
