Tennies have become so dang complicated with so many different styles for each type of activity. What happened to just buying a pair of tennis shoes? Since I figured they are shoes that cover my feet while I am walking, I had best go with the general term of walking shoes. I chose the New Balance cause, um, well for no reason in particular. Probably because they were all white, seemed moderately priced, and had my size. Finding a shoe in my size isn't always the easiest chore since it is a fairly common size and they are usually low in stock. I also have a wider foot, limiting my selection even more.
The
New Balance 575 offered a nice fit and were comfortable to walk around my office in over a 10 hour day. It is designed for moderate walking, not high impact ‘fast walking' and certainly not for jogging. The material used in the padding of the insole is called Abzorb, a foam material that cushions foot shock. The outer area of the sole has a wider surface to help stabilize your foot in the normal walking gait. The insole is removable for more comfort and can be replaced, if necessary.
These come with a leather upper, rubber outsole, brushed nylon upper lining and a sockliner. Small pin holes dot the uppers to allow air circulation but only protrudes through the leather. Your foot is still protected from dirt and debris by the nylon and sockliner. The air holes are especially important to allow your feet, which are totally enclosed, to have some breathing room while still keeping them dry and protected.
Cleaning is simple; wipe off with a damp cloth and allow to air dry. The best feature: Made in USA.
Overall impression:When purchased, I thought these were the perfect shoe for me. However, over time I have noticed that for everyday use they seem heavy and awkward. This is not a defect in the shoe, but a personal preference. I know they are designed as a walking shoe, not a working shoe, so I understand the width and thickness of the sole, which adds the weight I mentioned. Used for the purpose for which they were designed, I am sure this would be a very good shoe. However, for me, once it became a chore for me to lift my feet off the ground; I shuffled them to the back of the closet and take them out only on rare occasions. They have been durable and easy to keep clean.
Thanks,
Susi
