Author's Review
I like Newsweek because their magazine offers up-to-date info on issues as they are occurring or just afterward. The coverage is excellent and has helped to keep me informed of issues I needed to know more information on.
Whether it be coverage of national, international or business news, this is a great source for finding out what is happening in the world around us. Newsweek also has some great reviews of new music, books and an exceptional review of movies.
Due to health difficulties and other issues, I usually spend close to 30 minutes to an hour in one waiting room or another during the course of a week. The good thing is that this allows me to read this magazine without having to subscribe to it myself! This is one of the best magazines to pick up in a waiting room, it covers briefly, but concisely, the main points of issues! You have time to finish most of the articles while you are waiting!
My favorite section of Newsweek is the "Cyberscope" which focuses on all of the latest technology, games, gadgets and gizmos out on the market. Usually I am aware of new technology before friends and colleagues - even those in technical fields!!
The other thing to be aware of is that if Newsweek prints an article that you find offensive, they do make retractions. I have written to their editors on multiple occasions while working in the mental heath field and have always gotten responses - I believe that if you don't respond, you condone. Often, when we read articles, we tend to overlook blatant little put downs of segments of our society. As an activist, I find it demeaning that magazines that I hold in this high of regard still slip and use terms such as crazies, lunies, etc. I have addressed each incident and find that they do listen and try - there are fewer and fewer instances of this in most recent issues.
If you haven't read Newsweek, give it a shot - you won't be disappointed. If you've read it, you already know it is one of the best out there.
