Better than the first!

So here I continue my reviews of the ´Friday´ series. ´Next Friday´ takes up right were ´Last Friday´ left us. As everybody who´s seen that movie knows (I advice you to watch the first one, before the second one...) Craig (Ice Cube) kicked Deebo´s ss pretty hard. Deebo (Tiny lister Jr.) went to jail, but now he has escaped. So Craig´s dad Mr. Jones (John Witherspoon) comes up with the idea to send his son to the suburbs. In fact Craig´s uncle Elroy Jones (Don D.C. Curry), and his nephew Day Day (Mike Epps) are living there. Elroy hit the lotery and now goes by the name ´Lotto stud´. Anyway, Craig goes down to the suburbs in case of safety, but only get´s himself into more trouble. Together with his crazy nephew he throws himself into one hell of an adventure, involving the local Latino gang, a trippin´ cd shop owner called Pinky (Clifton Powell), and last but not least: Deebo wants his revenge...

So, this funny story is the set up for a sequel! To start with, -despite the fact that Chris Tucker didn´t sign for it- this sequel is a lot more iventive and funny than the first (that´s my epinion...) Writer/character creator/star Ice Cube takes himself (the main character) to a whole new setting -kind of fish out of water..- and creates some new hilarious characters. For example the trippin´ cdshop owner Pinky (Clifton Powell) -dressed in pink- , is one great laughable character. So is the the Mexican neighbour Joker (Jacob Vargas), and absolutely hilarious character! Not to mention many others like Don Dc. Curry´s Uncle Elroy, and his girlfriend Suga (Kim Whitley) -who like to get real dirty together-.
Miss Ho-kym is also a great character; she´s this old lady, living in the neighbourhood. When Day Day says something about China, she replies; I´m Korean Motherfokker.
Anyway, the point is that this film is filled with more locations than the first, and more crazy characters...

The good thing with this sequel is that most of the ´old´ characters return and the new ones blend in good. With these old characters returning, you only start to like them more. I give all my credit to Ice Cube for writing and acting in this great sequel! Director Steve Carr (´Daddy Day Care´) does a good job aswell, bringing this funky film to life.

So recommendable? Yes, it´s a great comedy. Watch it with some friends or your girlfriend and I´m sure you´ll laugh your socks of. I do want to say that there´s some chronic smoking en this film and some RUDE talks. In fact the characters in this film don´t do much else than smoke some sht and fck around a little... if that´s not your style, then just stay away. I had a damn good time with this sequel, and it made me curious to see ´Friday after Next aswell´... that film brings the whole crew back in a Christmas atmosphere! But that´s something else- Next Friday is a very cool comedy, check it out.. Just make sure you see the original ´Friday´ first.
