Author's Review
Squinty eyes are annoying. Trying to see a baseball game from the nosebleed section, or watch seagulls from a speeding boat can be very difficult. We have had problems when going to the zoo and the animals don't feel like peeking out, going to monster trucks and concerts, and other family fun outings. So, instead of listening to all of us complain, my husband suggested that we buy a pair of binoculars. Now, since we have been married, he has always made comments about buying a pair, and I always shook my head, thinking it was a waste of money and just him not wanting to grow up and wanting to purchase yet another useless device. But once our boys were old enough to really become more recreational with family activities, of course, it made sense!
My husband loves NIKON. He had a photography course in college, and he had an expensive Nikon that got broke, and since he is brand loyal, when we went to the store to seek out a pair of peepers perfect for us, Nikon was the one he rooted for. When we brought it home and began using it, I can not believe all of the events that we should have had this for. We had to make up for lost time!!
The Nikon Monarch ATB 8 x 42 are very durable and user friendly. It is great for families like mine who love the outdoors, because it is fog proof, water proof and shock resistant to weather and activity conditions. With a non slip rubber coating that makes them easy to grip, you can go through mud, rain and waterfall with these lightweight adventure seeking binoculars! The Eco-Glass optical lenses are coated with anti-reflective material that creates a beautiful clarity though the 8 x magifying lens by the 42 mm lens diameter for razor sharp close ups. My eyesight is 20/20, but he sun and other bright lights hurt my eyes. My oldest son is far sighted, and my youngest is sensory sensitive with lights, so these lenses work perfect for each of us. You can see as far as the eye can see up to 1,000 yards, or 361 feet. Because my oldest is far sighted, he usually needs his glasses at sporting events, or when trying to view something from on top of a hill, and the long 19.6 mm allows even those with eye glasses a perfect field of view, and a diopter control to aid in any kind of vision problems. In the middle of the long sleek binoculars, there is a round focus adjuster in the middle to zoom in and out and focus on a specific area. The minimum focus range is about 8.2 feet, so you have to be at least a few steps back from your object of vision.
When using these, it takes me awhile to get focused, and then once I am satisfied, it seems like what I am looking at moves and I have to adjust it all over again. This is no problem, except I get a vision headache from time to time, and it takes me awhile to adjust my vision after putting them down. You want to move and turn these slowly, because the object of range is so close that everything can be blurry and take longer to spot and focus. The eye lenses are retractable and move easily for comfort. It is easy to carry, it comes with a neck strap and the pair only weighs 1.3 pounds and is 5- 1/8" W X 5- 7/8" D in size so carting it around at the zoo like we do is not that much of a hassle. It is great to be able to see the little details when normally we just get the illusion. It also came with a nice case and front and back lens caps. With a 25 year warranty, you can not find anything better to match it.
