Author's Review
I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix P4. I have put this camera through it's paces and come to the conclusion that this is one of the best compact cameras you can own. I have tried several current models in search of the right combination of size, picture quality both indoors and outdoors, video quality, features, ease of use etc. I have tested the Casio Exilim Ex-Z750, the Olympus Stylus 710, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1, the Nikon Coolpix S3, and the Casio Exilim ES-600. I feel very comfortable recommending the Nikon Coolpix P4 over all of them. The Casio Exilim EX-Z750 ran a close second. However some people have complained about lens malfunctions/breakage that Casio is unwilling to fix even during the warranty period. You can read the professional reviews on sites like D-Preview, Steve's Digicams, and DC Resource for in-depth feature by feature reviews...but the bottom line is that from the perspective of a current user, me...this camera takes great photos with lots of manual control and in camera adjustments at your fingertips. The Vibration Reduction System works great. It is very hard to take a blurred picture with this camera. The camera is also very attractive to look at. It looks much nicer in person than in photos. Its a little on the chunky side, but my research has found that if you want a camera that can handle low light and bright light, shoots well indoors and outdoors, has virtually no shutter lag, is durable, has a great screen, and takes professional quality photos...the thin credit card style cameras are just not able to produce those types of results the way a camera that is about 1-1 1/2 inches thick can. There's just too much circuitry, optics, technology, and engineering required to produce great all around results to fit into a thin 1/4 inch thick camera. Save yourself the time and energy associated with testing a whole bunch of different camera models. I've already done it. I've taken hundreds of pictures with each model I listed above and hands down the Nikon Coolpix P4 beats them all. If you want to settle for mediocre photo quality then all of the others will work just fine. Typically if you don't have perfect lighting and perfect shooting conditions...such as no wind etc. then your photos will not impress with those other cameras. Based on my experience,it is easy to get great pictures with the Nikon Coolpix P4 in all of those conditions.
