Author's Review
Okay, it may not be the prettiest little rice-burner on the road, but it has served me well these past five years. Originally purchased new, she was one of the last of the 200SX's. I was really looking for an SE-R but those were hard to come by in NOV 98. So I settled for an SE with the 5-speed manual. I was a messenger in Hollywood @ the time and I needed something compact, quick, and stingy with gas. The 200SX fit the bill nicely. I averaged 150-200 miles a day, throughout downtown L.A., hollywood, and burbank, speeding through intersections, sitting in traffic, cruising down melrose. My car would make 10-12hr days go by fast, with it's comfortable seating. With the 5-speed, it was relatively quick, too. This is L.A., you have to drive on the aggresive side, or you will get eaten for lunch. this car held its own. Because of it's severe duty, i would put her in the shop for some thorough p/m'ing
(that's preventive maintanance for those who don't drive for a living.) Under severe duty, front brakes only lasted about 20 thousand miles, the rear drums would hold out for about 60. In a years time I had put 45 thousand miles on the odometer and she was still running like new. during that time, i'ts been in numerous accidents, frontal collisions, side swipes, rear end love-taps, but all the repairs have never revealed any long term gremlins. It still tracks straight down the highway, all the electrical components work as when new, and this thing had them all, moonroof, power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, fog lights, they all still work as new. Today she has 107,000 miles on the clock, even after all the wrecks and all the miles the only thing i have replaced was the the right side headlight bulb. Granted I change the oil religiously, rotate my tires every 3000 miles and a tune up every 30,000 miles, i am still quite impressed with the reliability. I'm not a messenger anymore, I work in an office somewhere in Orange County. My 200sx doesn't see the daily miles it did when it was new, which seems only fair since i tried my best to run it into the ground when it was new. I don't race down the freeway anymore, I tend to use the cruise control alot lately. with regular maintenance, It is possible I will put another 107,000 miles on it. Like I said in the begining, she may not be the prettiest little rice-burner on the road but hands down, the most reliable car I have ever owned. If you are looking to buy one used, i highly recommend it.
