1999 Nissan Pathfinder LE
Pros:
GREAT handling, 4 wheel drive, Bose stereo, power and torque, sunroof, heated leather seats/other amenities.
Cons:
Dismal gas mileage, minimal rear foot room, seat heat and cruise control switches.
The Bottom Line:
Absolutely recommended. This truck handles like a much smaller vehicle, has great amenities, is comfortable on trips and has adequate power and torque. Beware of later versions requiring premium gas.

Author's Review
This truck seems to be bulletproof! I bought it used, with 33,000 miles, and have had it for almost a year now and have very few complaints overall. No mechanical problems have surfaced. The heated leather seats are very comfortable, the engine has plenty of torque, the driving position is great with a commanding view of the road in all directions. The creature comforts of this vehicle make you feel as if you are in a luxury car. Our other car is a 2000 Cadillac DTS, and I enjoy driving this truck just as much.
A few minor complaints: The fuel economy is, frankly, not great - I generally get around 17 MPG with mixed driving. Some of the minor controls are not handy: the cruise control master switch is on the dash to the left of the steering wheel and very much hidden - the actual controls are on the wheel, but they are not lit(!) The seat heat controls do not shut off automatically, and there is only MINIMAL foot room under the front seats for the rear passengers. Those are, pretty much, my complaints.
Shortly after buying this truck, my friend and co-worker asked to drive it, fell in love with it and bought a 2001. Only problem is, the 2001 requires (now) very pricey premium gas - at 17 MPG, and a 55 mile daily commute, he is a bit sorry, but still says he loves it. Apparently, Nissan straightened out the control issues by 2001, too.
