Product Review

1st Generation Murano Good, 2nd Gen Bad

by   theeduc8tor ,   Nov 12, 2008

Pros:  Fantastic people mover.  Quiet transmission.  Sleek contemporary design.

Cons:  Oddly designed panels underneath that protect the gas tank.  Brakes squeal when reversing.

The Bottom Line:  A fantastic Japanese made vehicle that looks great, drives well and continues to be the most reliable Japanese vehicle that I have ever owned.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

After 3 years with my 2005 Nissan Murano SE, I continue to be excited and impressed by the reliability and design of this vehicle.  The CVT transmission is seamless and quiet.  The engine ticks like a watch and the interior size continues to amaze me with the amount of cargo that it accommodates.
What I dislike is that my lease ends in a few months and I absolutely HATE the 2009 Nissan Murano.  Nissan really found a way to make an expensive vehicle even more expensive.  All of the little features that I have on my SE (auto headlights, fog lamps, Xenon headlights) are only available on the higher priced SL and LE.  While most auto manufacturers improve upon a model, they created a brand new model (LE) that is almost 10K more than the previous generation SE and got rid of the SE. And the LE only comes in AWD and has superfluous roof-racks.  The 2009 Nissan Murano lost its unique design and its appeal.  The bottom of the line S model is really a stripped-down basic mode of high-priced transportation.
The only way Nissan will win me back is if I get a killer deal on a 2009 Nissan Murano LE, but other than that....I'm thinking about becoming a Honda guy again.
