Product Review

2006 Nissan Pathfinder SE

by   oscarg99 ,   Oct 20, 2006

Pros:  Looks, drive, spacious cargo room view of the road.

Cons:  Mpg, third row seat only for kids no pullout cover for cargo

The Bottom Line:  The PF is a great car not to big for city parking or driving Feels very powerful and safe.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

We (wife and me) decided on the se model because we liked the aluminum trim as opposed to the wood on the le and the rubberized floor in the cargo area. We also liked that it was 3k cheaper.

We got the
- Leather package witch has heated leather seats, and defrosting side view mirrors.
- Comfort package witch has the dual zone climates (awesome feature really sold my wife she’s always cold and rear controlled climate, Power passenger seat and adjustable brake and accelerator pedals.
- Premium package (didn’t really want or need this but it was already part of the car so had to take it)- includes a garage door opener for three different doors compass and temp display in the rear view mirror that adjusts automatically for glare. It also has a Bose sound system with six in dash mp3 capable cds about 1200 songs or 60 hours of play back, 8 speakers and a subwoofer and a sunroof. We ended up liking the premium package and are very happy with it.

So after every thing is said and done we pretty much have a LE minus the 17” rims and the memory seats and auto 4x4. For about 3k less

When we were shopping for our car we narrowed it down to three cars, Honda Pilot, Toyota 4 Runner and Nissan Pathfinder. We test drove all three starting with the Toyota I liked the look of it and the engine but, when it came time to get into the rear seat I got pretty banged up the opening is so small I’m 5㤒” and my knees were pressed up against the front seat and I felt that my hips were so much lower than my knees I was very uncomfortable for the 10 min test drive (I don’t agree with the person in the previous review that says the pathfinder is a tighter fit or that the middle seat in the back row is uncomfortable the 4 runners is a lot higher than the PF ) the numbers don’t lie rear legroom and shoulder room is more on the PF. The 4Runner interior was ok it didn’t offer many dc connectors just one it did offer an ac in the center consul on the limited only. The sales people were pretty pushy and wouldn’t let us leave kept on bringing a new person to talk to us spent 2 hours with them.
When he was going to get the owner we finally got up and left.
It was Hondas turn we liked the Pilot it felt like a car very quiet no engine noise or road noise. The interior was very well laid out and it felt the most spacious of the three. The center consul was a bit awkward and it seems like it can get filled with junk quickly. The navigation was awesome but not worth the 1700 in my opinion. I don’t think it is a very good off road vehicle (not a problem because we live in a Chicago suburb). At the end we decided the Pilot was to simple looking kind of like a minivan.

So we went with the PF we really like it. We have gone on one road trip were there was a little off road section not a problem for it, didn’t even have it on 4X4 it drives very well in the city also. I towed a small boat with it (another nice thing about the PF is that the tow package is included) but I prefer to use my pickup to launch and take the boat out of the water much easier. Although my wife is the primary driver I drive it on weekends and road trips the mpg aren’t great we are averaging 20 mpg on the highway and 17 in the city pretty much the same as the other three I would like to see Nissan make more fuel efficient engines or trucks. The price we paid was fare I thought I got it for 500 under invoice. We paid 30900 before taxes because the dealer already had some stuff on the vehicle like sunroof wind deflector, wheel locks and cargo net. I guess we could have negotiated more but my wife needed a car soon because I had sold her car two weeks before. I hope this is useful to all we have driven 1200 miles on it and have had no complaints so far.
