Author's Review
Introduction
For a long time, I wanted to buy the Oakley Juliet sunglasses, but I couldn't justify paying $499 for a pair of Oakley Juliet sunglasses. My first Oakley was the $120 half-wire Oakley model that I bought in 2001. Before I tell you what I like and don't like about the Oakley X-Metal Juliet, I will tell you a little bit about my experience with Oakley sunglasses.
Why do I like Oakley compared to other sun glasses?
- I thought the Oakley sunglasses were more durable than other sunglasses that they don't break as easily like other sunglasses, unless of course it will break if you sit or step on the sunglasses by accident. Well, I was wrong about my perception of the durability of the Oakley sunglasses.
- I thought the Oakley sunglasses could last for a long time. In fact my Half-Wire Oakley was a great sunglasses, but I dropped it and lost it at our local supermarket in 2002, so I had to buy another half wire Oakley sunglasses which later broke in 2005.
- I really like the modern style of the Oakley sun glasses.
- It is very comfortable to wear.
Why did I buy the Oakley Juliet?
- As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, my 2nd Oakley Half-Wire was broken in 2005 and I needed a new pair of sun glasses. Since now I had saved enough money to buy the Oakley X-Metal Juliet, I decided to go shopping at the Sunglasses Hut at Camarillo Outlet in California.
- I bought the Oakley Juliet because it had a beautiful design and style, it felt really good when I tried it on and it was very comfortable. I thought the Juliet was a great sunglasses just like any other previous Oakley sunglasses that I use to own, so I bought the Juliet. I paid $499 for it. I was so happy that I finally own an Oakley Juliet until something happened to the lens.
- I love the color lens.
The Disappointing Experience with Oakley
Before you go out there and buy the Oakley Juliet, please consider what I am about to tell you about the Oakley Juliet model. My Oakley Juliet will be my last Oakley and I am switching back to Ray Ban or a cheaper high quality glasses. I still feel devastated every time I look at my Oakley Juliet right now. I am still wearing it but the frame is all crocked. I am still wearing it because I felt bad throwing away a $499 glasses. These are the reasons why I no longer like the Oakley sunglasses.
- Oakley Juliet is not as durable as I thought it was. For a pair of $499 glasses, the lens and the frame of the glasses should be more durable than the $120 half wire Oakley, but I was wrong. 3 days after purchased the glasses, I placed my car keys and the Oakley on the table and I accidentally push the keys on the Oakley Juliet very lightly. The key scratched one of the lenses.
- The lenses are not scratch proof. One of the lenses had a scratch on it. I was so furious and upset because $499 sunglasses should be more scratch resistance than the cheaper sunglasses. I had a $699 Tag Heuer watch and the sapphire crystal is a scratch proof, you can run a key, a knife, a screw driver on the watch sapphire crystal lens and nothing would scratch it. The $499 Oakley Juliet lenses are not scratch proof at all! What a disappointment! What's the point of spending that much money for something that will break easily.
- The 100% customer satisfaction guarantee is a marketing lie. The Oakley customer service is pretty arrogant. I called Oakley up and they told me, the scratch is not cover under their warranty and I had to send them $50 to replace the lens. They said that they are sorry but there isn't much they could do to help me. I was complaining about the quality of the glasses, but Oakley customer representative just wouldn't listen and he was very arrogant on the phone and he wasn't very helpful at all. Even though the glasses was only 3 days old, Oakley refuse to fix it or stand behind the quality of their product. Their 100% satisfaction guarantee is a marketing lie, they won't even give your money back if you don't like the glasses.
- The frame quality of the Oakley Juliet is horrible! It is not durable compared to the half wire. The half wire could withstand a little abuse compared to the Juliet! You can easily bend the frame by accident and it is over.
- The rubber nose piece kept falling off on the Juliet which is very annoying. Now I know why they give extra noise rubber piece, because Oakley expected that to happen, so they give extra rubber nose piece just in case you lose it.
- There is rubber piece on the near the ear piece, and they fall off too. Again, Oakley expected that to happen, so they gave extra ear rubber piece. $499 sunglasses and all the rubber pieces are falling off, it is horrible!
Will I Recommend Oakley Juliet to My Friends and Family?
No, I don't recommend you to waste your hard earned money on the Oakley Juliet! Save your money to take your wife, husband, kids and friends to a nice dinner or a vacation. Save your $499 and spend it on something else. The thing about sunglasses, sometimes, you will accidentally step on it, sit on it or lose it and it is better to buy a cheap one for $10 or $15 and lose $10 to $15 by accident than losing $499 by accident. You won't feel as bad if you accidentally break your sunglasses.
Conclusion
Oakley X metal Juliet is an overpriced sunglasses and it is not durable at all for the price. Although, it is very stylish and cool, it is way too expensive. Oakley should improve the quality of the Juliet model, because I am not going to buy a second one ever again. It was a waste of money buying the Oakley Juliet. I learned my lesson not to spend my hard earned money on an overpriced sunglasses.
