HOLD ON TO YOUR DOGGIE - ORECK IN THE HOUSE!
Date of Review: Mar 20, 2005
The Bottom Line: Take the Oreck for a test drive. It's at least worth the free 30 day trial if they are offering it. I think you'll be happy with its performance.
WHY I BOUGHT IT:
This is a great vacuum! It's powerful and light and with two small dogs in the house it is well used. I actually have owned this vacuum now for several years. I have to say I bought this vacuum used and I was told that it is actually more of a commercial vacuum from the Oreck line. I made the purchase in hopes that it would be easier to haul up and down the stairs which it was.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The vacuum is very light and does a great job at picking up dirt, dog hair and grime. I'm not sure how great of a job it does at deep cleaning or removing allergens but I'm imagining not well compared to my Hoover Wind-Tunnel.
I also noticed that my kids can handle this vacuum with no complaints.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT:
I do love the super-light weight of the vacuum and the ease of changing the bags. I have also taken the outside fabric bag completely apart and thrown it into the washer and let it air dry. It came out great and smelled like new after it dried. I also really like the super heavy duty and long electric cord on the vacuum. Another thing I noticed is that I've only had one item get caught in the belt since I have owned this vacuum. Don't you love that smell of burning rubber! Also, it's compact size makes it very easy to store. It fits easily into a closet. I lived in a three story house and it was so easy to carry this vacuum from level to level.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT IT:
The bags are a little pricey. I purchased a package of 15 bags at a vacuum shop that set me back almost $25. I'm sure they can be found cheaper elsewhere. But the bags last a long time so I guess I can't complain. I do wish the bottom was designed to be easily taken apart in order to get threads and things out of the roller or belt. As it is you have to get a screwdriver and take a plate off to clean the roller.
WHAT DOES IT COME WITH:
It comes with the vacuum and a couple of bags. This is a basic vacuum cleaner with no on-board attachments. You may at times get a deal if ordering direct through Oreck where they will throw in a smaller hand held vac. Since I purchased mine used I did not get a warranty book or instruction manual.
MY FINAL ANSWER:
Overall, I'd have to say this little vacuum does the job. I would recommend it to anyone and highly suggest you give it a try if you're looking for a smaller, light weight but powerful vacuum. This vacuum is very easy to push and you can get it into tight little places. It's super light as well. It looks cheap but actually it is very well made. Since it's such a basic model there is no skill involved with it's use. It has no on board attachments with this particular model. It adjusts beautifully from carpet to hard floor and picks up well on both. It hugs the wall so you can get very close to the baseboards. It's also small and compact and fits easily into a coat closet or small space. It does not have a carpet height adjuster but you just don't need it on this vacuum. I'd buy it again and will when this one goes to the great vacuum heaven in the sky!
