Product Review

Buy the Sennheiser PX-200s instead.

by   excaliburn ,   Oct 30, 2004

Pros:  Noise canceling is marginally effective, unit folds up.

Cons:  Poor fit, poor sound quality, external circuit box is a pain.

The Bottom Line:  Buy the Sennheiser PX-200s.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I own 12 sets of headphones for portable audio, including several other sets of nose-canceling headphones. These are adequate, but just barely.

It is fairly difficult to get these to seat properly on your ears. If they don't seat properly, you have very little bass.

Even if they do seat properly, the high-end and mid-range are rather muted. The sense of musical presence is completely absent.

The noise canceling feature is pretty weak. If you put these on in a quiet room and switch the noise-canceling on and then off, you will notice a significant decrease in the sound quality when the circuit is active. Yes, the noise canceling DOES mute some continuous, low-level background noise, but it is not a good bargain when the music deteriorates so badly.

The noise-canceling circuit is contained in an exterior box. This is a real pain. It is heavy enough (with battery) to irritate you, but you can't really do anything with it. there's no clip to attach it to anything and if yo try to put it in a pocket, the volume wheel will get turned.

Not recommended. For just a few $$ more, get the Sennheiser PX-200s. They don't have the noise-canceling feature, but they DO have great sound. They are also much more comfortable.
