This is by far my favorite carrier for a bigger/older baby. I liked my Bjorn and my sling for infants, but once they start creeping on the 20 pound mark, you just cant carry them any more. Especially not in a carrier that doesnt offer back support.
I researched this to death. I saw all of the awesome ABC and Mai Tai carriers, lots of awesome wraps. Those were great carriers for OTHER people, but not for me. I am completely challenged when it comes to wrapping or tying something around me to carry my baby in. Im just happy I can buckle both of the straps on the Patapum. Even that took some practice for me.
Both of my kids love to be carried. I carried my son in my Patapum when he was almost 2 years old and I was pregnant with my daughter. It is truly that comfortable and that easy to use. (Because I have always carried my son around this way, my Dr. felt it was completely fine for me to continue to do so as long as I was comfortable. I am in no way saying that this is something a pregnant person should do.) I love that this carrier can be a front carrier OR a back carrier. I also thought that the position that the baby sits in would be uncomfortable for them, but it was very natural and neither one of my kids have had any complaints.
I really have no cons for this carrier. Its easy to use (although I did need some practice, and do require help for back carries, but I know many people who manage just fine on their own). I found it to be a great, cheaper alternative to the Ergo, another carrier I looked into. I love the fabric, its soft, but very durable and it offers incredible support.
Keep in mind that you are carrying a large child. When I say that it is easy and comfortable, I mean that in the terms of carrying A LARGE CHILD. By no means does it make your child weightless, but it does keep your hands free and offer a safe, comfortable way to tote them around.
