Watch the range surface!

Like others who have written reviews on this range, I wanted a 36" but didn't want to spend $4000+. I sold my vintage 1950's white enamel range because the oven was very small and we are a family of six. After having the Premiere in my home for a year I wish I had my old stove back! It's true, the oven is large but compared to my old stove, it is a wimp! I noticed immediately that things were not baking in the times I was accustomed to! I found out when we called a service man that it takes at least 20 mins to pre-heat. When we used an expensive oven thermometer we found that the oven temp really varies during baking. Set at 350 it actually drops down to 310 and fires back up to 360. And don't dare open the oven door while baking something! The temp will drop fast and take a while to get back up to where it should be. THAT is my first dissatisfaction, but I'm adjusting to the oven over time. My BIGGEST complaint is the range surface! After just 4 months we found that the black coating (enamel?) around one of the high temp burners (really powerful) had blistered badly. None of us recalls anything boiling over on to the burner, so we have no idea how this happened. I checked the warrantee and guess what?-- the only thing NOT covered is the range surface! I wonder why? Let me tell you this is hard to take. My 1950's stove was my pride and joy bc it gleamed! Now I have a range that after just 4 months looks like an old appliance. I am ashamed to show people the stove! When I do I put a pot over the damaged burner. We've recently noticed that the other high power burner is also showing signs of blistering. My un-professional opinion is that the surface material of these stoves is not adequate to handle the high heat of the these 2 powerful "professional series" burners. I feel that the manufacturer is aware of this and that is why the range surface is left out of warrantee coverage. Another thing about the range top is that it is difficult to clean. After any clean up you must follow up with a glass cleaner and a paper towel to get the glossy appearance. If you just clean up with an all-purpose type cleaner, it will leave very noticable smears.
Another thing to watch for: We found that the broiler pan gives off a horrible chemical smell when the oven is turned on. We found that placing a sheet of silver foil over the top of the broiler pan prevents this.

OK- The appearance of my range is very disappointing but there are some good things about this range. I love the simmer burner. I can put on a pot of spagetti sauce, set it to simmer and never worry about the bottom burning. I really like the griddle that comes with the stove and fits into the center of the range top when you remove the 2 center grates. The large oven is a plus when it comes to baking many things at once.
