Author's Review
As someone who prefers to use pens to write with whenever possible, I do find that when I am forced to use a pencil that there is an instrument able to impress even me...
Part of this product's virtue lies in that it is a mechanical pencil, which I will always prefer over wooden alternatives. But what Pentel has done is taken a good concept and nearly perfected it.
First of all, sharpening wooden pencils is a pain, especially when they tend to break so easily. A mechanical pencil provides a seemingly endless supply of lead that does not require shuffling to the pencil sharpener and becoming covered in wood shavings. Furthermore, while a wooden pencil gradually dulls and the only sharp, clear marks to be made with it are just after sharpening, this pencil provides a line of continuous width.
This brings us to features that begins to differentiate this amazing product from all other mechanical pencils. The Quicker Clicker uses .5mm width lead, while other mechanicals tend to make use of .7mm lead. Writing with the Quicker Clicker is clearer and neater. It is also faster thanks to the forward feed mechanism, located in the distinctive and quite comfortable rubber grip just below the tip.
The tip itself unscrews to clear the odd jam or for cleaning, allowing for maintenance impossible to perform on many other mechanical pencils. This combined with the refillable lead and the easily replaceable eraser makes a single Pentel Quicker Clicker capable of lasting for years of use. Last but not least, the Quicker Clicker also sports a pocket clip, and unlike with many other pencils, it is made of metal instead of easily deformed plastic, for reliability and ruggedness.
In my experiences using the Pentel Quicker Clicker, I have never noticed any serious negative performance issues. The pencil has performed well for me in every capacity I have employed it in, including for scanned standardized tests. Test scanners have no difficulty detecting marks made by Pentel's lead and it will make do for purposes requiring a No. 2 pencil, with all of the benefits listed above, of course.
This is an excellent quality product that is reasonably priced and easily maintained, on the infrequent occasions that it is necessary.
