Author's Review
This book turned out to be nothing as I imagined. I was surprised to find so many parallels' with her life. It' was an extraordinary life, yet at the same time, it tells the story of every career woman in a man's world. It didn't matter whether you were born rich, or came from the ghettoes. The struggle with self confidence, to overcome the prejudice and glass ceiling is the same. I have always felt lucky in my own career. I have always thought that I was given every chance, never encountered the glass ceiling because I have never climbed high enough on the corporate ladder. Reading Katherine Graham's book made me realize all the times I kept quiet in meetings, all the times that I let a male colleague have the last word, all the times that I told myself to be patient and wait for a promotion rather demand one were all part of that glass ceilng syndrome. We have been so branwashed that our self doubt overshadows even our male colleague's. The glass ceilings have become a self imposed ceiling.
Underneath all the glamor and riches, Katherine Graham's inner life and struggle was just like the rest of us. There was happiness and sorrow, there were achievements and failures, there was fulfillment and emptiness, and there was love and betrayal.
I loved the book. I hope every woman will be able to draw confidence from reading her book. I know I have.
