Horrible Experience

I got a Philips 3140 DVD player about 18 months ago. At first, it worked fine. We only used it on commercially produced DVD movies, but had no complaints. Then we got busy and didn't use the DVD player for about 6 months. From there on out, whenever I tried to load a disk, it displayed "LOAD" for about 90 seconds and then the message "NO DISK". I called customer support who told me it was no longer under warranty, but offered to send me a replacement unit for $25. I received the replacement unit, which was actually a DVP5140, hooked it up, and from day 1 had the exact same behavior -- "LOAD for about 90 seconds followed by "NO DISK". This time I tried both commercial disks and my own creations, and the same behavior. I once again called customer service, and now they said they would send me a replacement for free. I am NOT optimistic about the chance of success. This product is of very poor quality.
The quality of customer service is equally poor. There was no one on the phone who could give technical assistance, to discuss whether it could be a setting or interference with my cable box. I definitely would not recommend anyone consider purchasing this product.
