When
Philosophy first introduced their
Lip Shines, I wasn't really interested. I had tried their popular
Kiss Me and absolutely hated everything about it. I assumed that these lip products would be similar. Then I was informed that they were nothing like the disgusting
Kiss Me lip stuff. So I decided to take a chance. I ordered the
Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine and couldn't be happier with my purchase!
About the Product
Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine is definitely more of a lip gloss than a lip balm. It is shiny, slightly shimmery, and really pretty. The gloss is a light peach color with a gold shimmery look to it. The shimmer is subtle and the gloss goes on clear. The scent is supposed to be similar to the Melon Daiquiri 3-in-1.
Price and Packaging
The
Lip Shine comes in a long clear plastic tube. There is a black lid that screws off to reveal a slanted tip plastic applicator. There is 0.5 oz of gloss and it sells for $10. It is sold at Sephora, drugstore.com. and philosophy.com.

My Experience
I was really worried that this was going to feel like
Philosophy Kiss Me. I think that stuff is heavy, greasy, and smells and tastes gross. I was thrilled when I finally tried the
Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine and it was nothing like it.
First of all, the
Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine is much thicker and goes on like a gloss rather than a balm. It gives your lips that glassy look and looks thick on your lips. It is not a thin shiny gloss that you might see a 13 year old wearing. It is clear with some subtle shimmer. I was hoping that some of the pretty peach color would show up on my lips, but the gloss is colorless. You can see small flecks of gold shimmer, but they do not look like chunks of glitter at all. It's very very subtle. It is completely appropriate for daytime and the workplace, but it gives the product a more sophisticated look rather than a plain old clear gloss.
Since the gloss is so thick, it is also pretty sticky. I have had my hair stuck to this gloss a number of times which is a pain, but the stickiness means that the gloss actually stays on your lips for longer than 10 minutes. Just today I wore it for well over an hour before I stopped at a Starbucks and a lot of it disappeared while I was drinking.
The scent and taste of the
Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine is nice, but not overwhelming. The scent is sweet and just like fresh melon. It has a slight sweet taste, but it's not over the top. I normally don't like scented and flavored lip products at all, but this one doesn't bother me.
Final Thoughts
I have been very pleased with my
Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Lip Shine. They perform better than I thought they would. I like the look it gives me and the way it actually stays put! I'll definitely be buying more. They are worth the $10 price tag.
