It's just so cute

Yes I am on my Pokemon soapbox once again. Defending Pokemon has become a way of life for me. All cuteness and fluffyness aside (oh yeah they are in there...) this movie is very dark.

For all those out there who wish Pokemon would go the way of yesterdays fads... sorry, don't see that happening anytime soon...I mean come on.. Pokemon 2000 is already out !!! But the Pokemon really beat the heck outta each other if that makes you any happier.

I really enjoyed this movie even though it is based for kids. I can not see how most kids are going to get some of the messages in the movie, but there is a lot going on they will understand. Some of the wording is very adult directed. Which is good... some adults I know can stand to learn a few things about prejudice.

Which brings me to the point of this movie. Passing judgment on someone just because they are different than you. Do not do this. It is wrong. Now I am sure most of us know this.. but just in case...Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu journey to MewTwo's island to meet a mysterious Pokemon Master. Which turns out to be MewTwo.

MewTwo has decided to make clones of all the Pokemon and then destroy the world so only he and his clones are left, as in his opinion, all other inhabitants are inferior to him. The four take objection to this judgement and decide to try and stop him. There are some major plot flaws here ... but it is a kids movie and if it sells then it works. Now I am not saying sacrifice quality just because it is for kids, the plot flaws do work out ok with out distracting from the story. Just because I am a Pokemon fanatic I tend to pick it apart a little more.

Meanwhile back on the Poke-farm... Mew, who is the rare Pokemon MewTwo was cloned from, shows up and fights for the humans and Pokemon. The battle rages on pitting Pokemon against Pokeclone. Needless to say, Ash pokes his pointed nose in between the psychic power battle between Mew and MewTwo and gets what everyone has hoped for all along. (see I can diss Pokemon too!!)

Now I have to admit, I have watched this movie over and over from theatre to DVD. I still am not sure why I cry at this part. I do not think it is because Ash gets it. I really believe it is because of Pikachu's reaction to it. I just watched it again today and I cried again, right in the same spot. That darn Pikachu is just too cute to suffer that way. Now I am going to totally ruin it for you ... Ash comes back to life from the Pokemon crying over him as it is written in an ancient Pokemon legend.

I will watch this movie again and again. And the short cartoon at the beginning with the little cut scenes of different Pokemon as a break, is really neat too. Pikachu's vacation is the title of the cartoon short.

The whole movie is based on the concept of friendship and love and helping each other out from the start of the cartoon to the end of the movie. And no matter how people feel about the Pokemon Menace... that message can not be taught to much to kids these days.

I will be seeing Pokemon 2000 as soon as I can and will write up that one too. I hope they make more. Pokemon are just so darn cute.
