I love this game. Period. I used to be a hardcore gamer, but right now because of time constraints I just don't have the resources to play alot of the games I would like to. What this means is that I typically only play games as stress relief.
Powerstone is definitely that. It's pure insane, addictive fun. I highly suggest playing it on two-player with someone. It's simply fabulous.
The premise of the game is collecting all three gems (red, yellow and blue.) When you do your fighting character turn into a super-powered version of themself. You then reek absolute havok on your competitor with your stone-imbued superpowers for a limited time, at which point the gems scatter again and its an all out free-for-all to capture them again so you can wack your opponent.
What makes the game even MORE fun and interesting is that all this is kept in a 3D arena. Most fighting games take place in a static (and often linear arena), even alot of 3D games. Not so in Powerstone, the arena is completely 3D with platforms, things you can hop on, crash into and swing around. In addition, weapons materialize that you can also demolish your opponent with. There's also various objects (like boxes, glass, poles) in the room that you can pic up and throw or bash them with as well. The level designs themselves are gorgeous. I often play stages just to look at them. Each stage is from a different area of the globe, and the characters reflect this. Did I mention the character designs are fabulous? Both their normal incarnations and their super-powered versions are very well designed, and incredibly fun to not only look at but play. The graphics and framerate works perfectly.
My only complaint is that it may be a lil too shallow for some gamers. It's great for a short blast of visual and gameplay crack, however if you're looking for something a lil meatier, you may be disappointed.
Don't let this keep you from trying this game though, it's simply amazing and pure entertainment.
