Product Review

Wish I had bought this one the first time around!

by   crankyconsumer ,   Jan 16, 2005

Pros:  Your baby won't outgrow this one! Fun for baby, easy to clean, feels safe.

Cons:  None. Size is no more inconvenient than other tubs. Store it under the crib!

The Bottom Line:  There is no "perfect" baby tub . . . except for this one! Actually holds enough water for big babies to play in, and keeps them secure.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

When I bought my first baby tub, I was thinking about saving space and passed over the Primo. But a short 6 months later, my baby was so big there was hardly any room for water left in the tub! He couldn't splash or play, and the water turned cold within minutes. When he tried to sit up, he smashed against the crotch-bar. I finally gave in and got the Primo, and it is so much more than just a bigger tub! For the first time, my 8-month old baby really enjoys taking a bath. He has room for toys, and the water surrounds him on all sides. The tub is easy to clean, easy to fill, and not too ugly. I also want to add that it is not THAT big; just bigger than other tubs, and for that reason, a lot better! We store ours under the crib and hardly even notice it.

I highly recommend this tub over a bath ring (a restraint that suctions to the bottom of the tub) for larger babies. For one thing, there are some safety concerns about bath rings, even with an adult present. And do you really want to fill and clean the full-size adult tub every night? You can buy an inflatable tub for larger babies, but they take up just as much room, are uglier, and most importantly, don't have a crotch bar, so the baby can easily slip down in the water. The only possible disadvantage of the Primo is that, because of the crotch bar, it is a little harder to wash between the legs, and harder to tip the baby back to rinse his/her hair. I'd much rather deal with this than have my baby slipping all over the place. I never got to use the infant side of this tub, and I hear it can be slippery. On the other hand, foam-lined tubs are known to get mildew! You can always add a towel or one of those suction-cup fish or bath decals to prevent slipping. The Primo is more expensive . . but if I had bought it first, I would have saved money on that first infant tub! It is worth the price for something you use every day.

In case you can't tell from the photos online, the white and mint-green tubs are pearly opaque plastic, while the blue one is translucent. On one side is a little incline to prop smaller babies, and on the other side is a place for bigger babies to sit up. Molded seats are secure and comfortable. There is a small hole on one end that you could use to hang it on a hook or something, but I don't see any practical way of hanging it on a wall. The drain is not too slow, but in any case, the tub is lightweight and easy to dump out.

This tub solves ALL the problems; now bath time is fun instead of awkward and fussy.

--------------

Update: I just wanted to add that the price I paid for this tub ($39) is inflated because I bought it at a local rip-off boutique. You can usually find it for $25-$30. At present, my baby is over 25 pounds and still loves this tub! -CC
