Pulse has got to be one of the greatest techno compilation CDs of all time. Maybe I belong in the dance clubs in Europe, but I cannot keep from listening to this disc over and over. The thing about Pulse is that it never lets up. The songs, as the TV commercial said, will make you sweat. The songs do not let up, and it seems like the tracks flow together. The more you listen to it, the more it seems like the whole CD is one big track of a song.
It opens with Rythem is a Dancer, a pretty decent song, but it is not the one that owns me. Weird techno verses and beats that American audiences don't seem to buy into are prominant in this track. If you like this track, you will most definitely enjoy the rest.
Rhythem is a Dancer is not my favorite song. I will go ahead and say them: "Mr. Vain", "Be My Lover", "What is Love", and "Rhythem of the Night". I could easily name more but I will concentrate on these.
Mr. Vain seems to tell a story about a guy who is, well, I don't honestly know. Hard to hear the lines when you are dancing. I doesn't matter though. This song proves that most people could care less about what the song is "saying". The beat, man. That's all that matters.
"What is Love". We've all heard this song. Remember the SNL sketches? Priceless. Bob your head in the car sometime. It's actually pretty fun. Goofy I know, but I believe all of modern-America now thinks techno is stupid anyway.
And, last but certainly not least, is "Rythem of the Night", quite simply the greatest techno song ever. I don't know the group, what it means, or when it was #1. I do know that this song takes you somewhere with the girl you love. Yes, hopefully the dance floor will be open for you and her one night for this song. It's hard to dance to, though, because it has a happy and joyous feel to it. You realize it is the middle of night and there is nothing to worry about...just dance. This track is the best reason to purchase this CD.
I still like techno. I love cruising the streets late at night with windows rolled down. I can only imagine what these songs would sound like in clubs and at dances now, though. Americans seem to ignore techno nowadays, dismissing it as old or weird. I think that needs to change, and Pulse is the great CD to do that. Put it on sometime. Let your body do its thing. Don't think...well, I'll just shut up. The point is that this is a great disc that will make you want to dance and forget your worries for a bit. Go get it now.
