Author's Review

Thomsen (sp?) Electronics, the real manufacturer of RCA digital audio components, has it printed in the owner's manual for this item that the user/owner should not play CDs with "homemade" (my words) labels on them. I suspect doing so wears down the internal spin-servo mechanism and creates poor lens tracking. My experience bears this out. I habitually leave labels _off all of my MP3 CDs, but as I have ample other players whose manuals do not cite this restriction regarding labels, I have never shirked from creating and applying same to my audio CDs. And, as sure as anything, this has had deleterious effects on this RCA player. I liked the price, I liked the details available via the LCD screen and while the audio presets aren't quite up to par with Sony's or Philips', at least Thomsen/RCA gave it a good go. If all you have to your collection is commercially-produced CD Audio and "duplicated" MP3 CDs without labels, then you're set with this model. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere (even to the mom&pop brands like Jensen, GPC and Coby).
