Author's Review
I have a TV in my computer/family room that I watch whenever I am at the computer doing research or paid to surf programs. I am constantly misplacing the remote and it finally just disappeared into thin air and was never to be seen again. Probably fell into the waste basket and was laid to rest in the town dump.
I missed being able to flip through the channels while online so I just had to finally go in search of a universal remote that I could figure out how to program all by myself :-).
I went to the first discount department store I could find, a Target store, and checked out their display of remotes. They have them from 1 function to about 10 functions. Some light up, some don't. Some practically program themselves and others were terribly complicated. The one I finally decided on came with free batteries, I guess that is one of the reasons I picked the one I did, I like to get anything for FREE. But that was only one of the reasons so I will tell you about the one I got and the other things I liked about it.
I chose the RCA Universal Remote RCU300T. This remote controls three devices and since I only need it for the TV, that is plenty. It is easy to hold and simple to use. The booklet that comes with it contains an extensive code library so you can match a code to your brand name of television. I have a Symphonic 19 inch TV and the code was in there and easy to enter. Also included in the booklet is a toll-free consumer helpline in case you do have a problem with the set-up. The remote has a 90 day warranty. Like I said this remote came with free batteries, but it will be very easy to replace the 2 AAA alkaline batteries when that time comes.
The buttons on the remote are large enough, have a nice soft rubbery feel to them and are colored coded
for you. The off-on button is red and so are the channel and volume buttons. The rest of the buttons are a periwinkle blue. Those buttons include the numeric ones, mute, previous channel, TV-VCR, menu, and the buttons that are specifically for the VCR if you program that, too. There is also a button to use if you are programming a cable box.
This universal remote replaces lost or broken tv remotes, is very inexpensive, lightweight, easy to hold and work, easy to program by just following the steps in the instruction booklet, and...................
so far hasn't disappeared from my room. I really wish they would install pagers in them like some telephones do!
