Author's Review
Reader's Digest is one magazine that my entire family has read and passed on for as long as I remember.
Of course everyone has their favorite sections of the Digest. My personal favorite is All in a Day's Work. These are humorous little stories that are submitted from real people about something that happened while they were working. My other is Life in These United States which also is a humor area but is more what happens with family members. A lot of cute things that kids say/do are included in this area.
There are a lot of real life stories, including success stories, survivor stories, trauma stories and also some biographies of more famous people.
Word Power is fun to test your knowledge of vocabulary. Words that may not be used in every day use are included with four possible definitions to choose from. The answers are on the back of the page. I don't do too bad, but I've never gotten them all correct yet.
They also have a Book Section which highlights a different book each month. The book is condensed into about 30-40 1/2 pages. It is more like a really long teaser.
Another area I really like is the Quotable Quotes. These are things that famous, and some not so famous, people have said in public or writing that can either be enlightening, humorous, or very sarcastic.
Also, if you are reading through these sections and think to yourself "Hey I have a story like that" you can always submit your story to Reader's Digest and if they use it they will pay you for it. They pay from $30 to $400 depending what area it is used for. If you are interested, check out the first pages of the digest to find out more.
Overall, I would have to say that Reader's Digest is something that anyone can find interest in. We usually don't find out that we have gotten our monthly copy for about a week, that's when my daughter finally let us know it has arrived ... of course she has already gone through it!!
